Art Gallery of South Australia
2 June to 5 August, 2012
As a component of the Art Gallery of South Australia’s S.A. Illustrated, From the Street project I created a bus stop sculpture which was placed on North Terrace, in front of the gallery. The work doubles between being a sculpture and a painting, borrowing imagery from significant colonial paintings of the gallery’s collection, combining them with colonial and contemporary scrawl collected from the Old Adelaide Gaol. The work blurs boundaries between high and low culture, historical and contemporary representation and plays between public and gallery based presentation.
The project was made possible with support from AGSA Contemporary Collectors and the Government of South Australia via ArtSA.
